Why Golang is important?

In 2022, the Engineering industry is evolving at such fast pace that one of the biggest struggles for engineers is to keep up with the change in the ecosystem.

With the upwards trends that many programming languages such as Rust, Golang, Kotlin are having, it becomes even more important to expand your knowledge about them. Not only it is important for Senior Engineers, as you may be faced with a decision to make about what language to use for your future project. And you want to make the most educated and logical decision.

But it is also important for all levels of Engineering as it exposes you to different paradigms of programming which can even contribute to improving your code in a different language (such as functional programming, Object-Oriented Programming).

Golang Workshop host Kyungil Choi
Golang in Tridge
Tridge supports and promotes all engineers' growth and learning.

Currently, Tridge's technology stack is mainly Python and TypeScript, but we use Golang to a limited extent, such as internal system tools. The Golang seminar was held by senior engineer Kyungil Choi which gave an opportunity for any Tridge Engineer to have a discussion and a quick on-boarding of Golang. Through the workshop, engineers could be exposed to more diverse technology environments and better judge the advantages and potential of Golang in the future.

The goal was to quickly create and compile a web server with only Golang's built-in library, and learn basic grammar in the process. It was very stimulating and brought the following discussions:

- Comparison of Golang syntax and concepts with Python/Javascript (our main languages)

- The benefits and drawbacks of Golang

- What are the possibility of integrating Golang in our Stack

- Learning curve of Golang

- Big industry players usage of Golang (Netflix, Google, Facebook etc..)

Golang Workshop material 1
Golang Workshop material 2

In subsequent workshops, we will explore how to build modern application servers using the Golang ecosystem, such as SQL, ORM, and GraphQL.

Stay tuned for our next workshop!
